Projects

Sports & health technology can help us to learn to ‘listen to our body and mind’ and to support individual, personalized feedback and to accelerate learning, which could potentially benefit everybody, if properly used, interpreted and applied. BBO has an international focus and it is an active contributor to several networks and consortia regarding health innovation (cure and care) and sports innovation (elite and amateur).
Our projects enable ‘fast validation’ of ‘use cases’ regarding data-driven sports & health technology, either stand-alone or in the context of overarching programs or ventures.

Definition and development of an app to validate (technically, scientifically) several use cases regarding ‘instant’ diagnostics and patient feedback, to be delivered by during a hospital visit (within 60 minutes), based on a blood sample. The app was made using MatLab, with pattern recognition and advanced statistics. The app helped to identify the trends regarding cell shape and size, assisting the non-expert staff members, saving time and lowering operational risk.

R&D project, meant to define and discover ‘real world’ use cases for elite- and amateur marathon runners, using existing sensor technology and analytical services that help to
Visualize the composition and diversity of the microbiota, in order to support marathon runners and staff, in dealing with (the risk of) gut issues during training and race. These use cases are meant to support an overarching scientific research project.

This project consist of two subprojects, targeted at drivers and coaches, for both the outdoor as well as the indoor (SIM) context: (1) definition and development of a toolkit to non-intrusively measure visual performance of racecar drivers, using high-end eye tracking hard- and software (2) Definition and development of a training and coaching module, to improve visual capacity, visual function and performance of racecar drivers, using a existing visual training app.

Definition and development of an app, supporting ‘digital’ athletes and runners and their trainers/coaches (digital or otherwise), using heart rate data (HR, HRV) for personal (SMART) feedback and interaction, about fitness, performance and exertion. This app is meant to off-load trainers and coaches, when conducting tests (e.g. like Zoladz, Max HF) or when monitoring (remotely or otherwise) athletes and runners, e.g. regarding the level of exertion, stress, fitness and the level of performance and energy consumption.

The deliverables of this project are (1) Market research (2) New tracking technology, to cover a broader spectrum of data (location, physiology, recovery and movement) including new video-based location technology (3) New data integration and synchronization software (4) New platform for developing software apps for sports coaches, based on the tracking technology and data integration functionality (4) Sample app and service for football, based on the above platform, that enables a real world coaching process.

Business development project, meant to define and discover ‘real world’ use cases for elite- and amateur athletes and runners, using and connecting lab and ambulant technologies, to measure, monitor and benchmark technique, performance and results. This project will define and develop services, which integrate, enrich and leverage existing technologies, in a way that adds value for the athlete/runner, the designated trainers/coaches the other parties involved.

A ‘PopScience’ project, which has been jointly defined and executed, together with Atletiekunie, the Dutch National Athletics league and running innovation network Running 2020. This project was initiated during the recently held ‘Looptrainersdag’, a national event in which more than 1000 running/athletics trainers/coaches participated. Out of this group, a subgroup of 20 participants was selected. These participants received a coupon to evaluate the HRV4training app, with the offer to enjoy 30 days of coaching based on HRV values. The HRV4training Coach app was used to monitor and review the HRV values of participants, which were logged on a daily basis.
